Glory Days Bikes – the story
When we were at the Eroica Brittania this year we met a number of enthusiasts who have started to turn their passion into a business. Glory Days are one of the companies who impressed us not only with the range of bikes they can provide but also with their idea of ‘retro rides’ that they organize in the fantastic cycling friendly Peak District.
“It’s a hobby that got out of hand” says William Alves, Co-Founder of Glory Days Bikes, based in the heart of the Peak District.
Glory Days offers reliable retro bike hire and sales and was founded on passion and knowledge in October 2012, initially to provide a service to riders for the first Eroica Britannia in June 2013 on it’s doorstep. The company now supplies bikes to other vintage events including Mighty Corinthian, Eroica Limburg and L’Ancienne. Customers also rent bikes for stag parties, special occasions and weekends away.
Glory Days specialises in pre 1987 steel bikes of British manufacture. Their good bicycles have names like Carlton, Dawes, Holdsworth and Raleigh. Their really good bicycles have even more boring names like Geoffrey Butler, Dave Marsh and J F Wilson. All have a unique history and meet their strict criteria.
All of Glory Days bicycles have been searched out and carefully chosen. Following a complete overhaul and service they are then given a test ride before being available to hire. They are keen to only offer the best, most reliable retro bikes in their stock. All their classic bikes are finished off with Brooks leather saddles and tool bags containing a pump, tyre levers and spare inner. They can also supply local maps, guides and panniers if required.
As lifelong cyclists William and Carol know the Peak District and Derbyshire like the back of their hands. They also run guided retro bike tours through the spectacular scenery of the Peak District National Park, offering a unique and authentic experience. Their package of fun bicycle tours are perfect for groups of friends and family. They offer bespoke tours too and a selection of vintage cycle jerseys.
