HoldsworthBuilding a beautiful old frame like this with a mix of recent and vintage parts that came off one of your other bikes is not straightforward. Just read Brendan’s comments (below).

  1. File down the fork drop outs – they were meant for a flattened axle – slog
  2. Brush out the BB threads and remove some paint
  3. Fit the BB and cranks
  4. Add washer to Zeus hubs to ensure Q/R fits tight
  5. Soak, clean and grease my old Campagnolo mechs from the Mercian, new jockey wheels too – rewarding work!
  6. File away some paint from the drop out so the mech moved freely – getting there
  7. FIt Mafac brakes & cable stops, careful not to crack the paint – paint prone to crack and peel
  8. Glue back cracked paint on brake bridge – careful now
  9. Unstick glued fingers- ouch
  10. Seat post and bars fitted – made a dogs dinner of fitting stem to bars
  11. Drill out the hole in the cable guide clamp as supplied bolt to short – charge drill first!
  12. Begin fitting bar end levers – more greasing required
  13. Need to decide which (and clean) brake levers
  14. Then fit all cables, except fit white bar tape before brake cables
  15. Fit new chain
